Check Your Heart

1Cor13v6

Well, you can pour on the sugar, you’ve got that down pat

You know all the right words – I’ll give you that.

You’ve been on committees from A down to Z

And to the door of the church building, you’ve got a key.

Your Good Book is earmarked by pages well worn

It’s been such a long time since you’ve been reborn

You can quote reams of Scripture with chapter and verse

And the songs you are singing are nicely rehearsed

But is your heart in the song you are singing?

Or are you a hollow bell ringing?

Check you heart, my friend, check your heart

If we have not love we are nothing

Check you heart, my friend, check your heart

If we have not love we are nothing

Let us love, Lord, let us love.

Though you speak with the tongues of angels and men

And you’ve prayed all the good prayers again and again

You’ve read through the Bible ninety-nine times

And you touch not a smidgeon of liquor or wine

Though mountains are moved by your faith so strong

And you do the right thing and never the wrong

Though you sell all your goods to give to the poor

Is your heart in the right place, are you sure?

But is there love in that gift you are giving?

Is there love in the life you are living?

Check you heart, my friend, check your heart

If we have not love we are nothing

Check you heart, my friend, check your heart

If we have not love we are nothing

Let us love, Lord, let us love.

Change our hearts, O Lord, change our hearts

Let us show your love to the hurting

Change our hearts, O Lord, change our hearts

Let us show your love to the hurting

Let us love, Lord, let us love.
