Favorite Hymn Lines

Verses of hymns often strike me with their depth or move me to deeper love for Christ.  So, hoping they will bless you also, here are some of my favorites which I might add to as they strike me.

Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art”

John Wesley in “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”

O ’tis not in grief to harm me, while Thy love is left to me;

O ’twere not in joy to charm me, were that joy unmixed with Thee.”

Henry Francis Lyte in “Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken” set to Ellesdie attr. to Mozart

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.”

from “Be Thou My Vision”. (I really had a difficult time pulling out a phrase from this song as the whole song is rapturous!) Words attr to Dallan Forgall; tr. Mary E. Byrne; versified Eleanor Hull

God never yet forsook at need, the soul that trusted Him indeed.”

from “If Thou but Trust in God to Guide Thee”; words by Georg Neumark, tr. Catherine Winkworth.
